Cups, Bells

Close-up shots abound in amateur video tutorials and ASMR, as they do in expensive ads and portrayals of nostalgia in movies. The camera floats above and beside hands, sometimes still, sometimes wavering, evoking the hapless gaze of an infant. Here the close-up is a trick, hack, gimmick towards intimacy: both flat and sparkling, romantic and ambient, contrived and documentary. The hands, meanwhile, are nervous and dry and inquisitive.
